I love reading about, watching, and learning new beauty hacks. However, most of what I see out there for content is made for younger women. Women in our middle-aged (otherwise known as FABULOUS) years have different concerns than women in their 20’s or 30’s. So in this blog post we are going to discuss 11 beauty hacks for middle aged women.
Beauty Hack #1 for mature women
Use a colored spray, or shadow, to hide roots that are growing in or areas where your hair is very thin. This is my favorite hack because it is so useful and so often needed. Anytime I am in between colors and my brown and gray roots are coming in I spray them with Root Touch Up Spray from TresSemme. This hides them completely and they blend right in with the rest of my color. It’s a great way to not only look better in between colors but it also helps you go longer in between if you need to.
Likewise, if you pull your hair back in a barrette or ponytail and have many sparse areas around your hairline, a colored shadow for hair is very useful. The one I use is the Clairol Temporary Root Powder. This covers up the gaps and makes your hair look fuller.
Beauty Hack #2 for mature women
Use an eyebrow serum or consider having your brows micro-bladed. For most of us, our eyebrows get thinner and more sparse the older we get. Just as a full head of hair is associated with youth so are full brows.
Suggestion number one, and the one I have tried myself, is to buy an eyebrow serum that helps your eyebrows grow in again. I tried this a few years ago and I had decent success. I certainly didn’t get the thick brows of my youth, but the hair grew in where the gaps had been. It’s just been this last half year or so that I have noticed that it’s time to treat them again.
The other option is to have your eyebrows micro-bladed. This is done by a professional who uses a razor and basically tattoos eyebrows onto you. Now, this is definitely the more expensive option and requires commitment, because like any tattoo you are stuck with the results fairly long term.
It is very important that you find a skilled professional and that they can show you evidence of the work they do. I’m looking into this myself but I’m still in the “researching” phase. Like any beauty procedure it’s important to know all the details before you commit.
Beauty Hack #3 for mature women
Shave your face ladies–just do it. It makes a world of difference in how your skin looks. When we get older hair grows in all the wrong places (and falls out of all of the right ones). Your skin will look plumper and smoother and your makeup will apply better.
I have a video and blog post on how I shave my own face and I will link them here for you: Face Shaving 101 For Middle Aged Women.
Beauty Hack #4 for mature women
Goodness, nobody ever told me that my feet would get uglier as I got older!! Don’t laugh–it’s true. If you are a middle-aged woman I have no doubt you know it’s true. Where I use to have baby-soft feet I now have large calluses that are hard to get rid of. Let me recommend Karasal Intensive Foot Repair. I found out about this product on Youtube from a Dermatologist and once I tried it, it became a staple to have by my bed.
This cream has Urea in it which helps to soften those hard edges of feet. I simply put this on my feet before bed at night, put on a cozy pair of socks, and sleep. It takes a few days to have soft feet again if I wait too long in between doing this but it’s like magic. So forget using those foot shavers to get off the dead skin and just use this.
Beauty Hack #5 for mature women
Use a microfiber towel for your hair. I put off doing this for the longest time because I honestly did not think it would make any difference. After all, I had been using regular towels and piling them high on my head my whole life.
Well, I was wrong. First, the speed at which they dry your hair is amazing. They are like moisture magnets and they suck out the water. Second, they are light on your head and neck and secure with a button so they don’t slip all over the place. It’s just a game-changer.
Beauty Hack #6 for mature women
Watch Fashion YouTubers. It’s important to understand what makes up the basics of a good wardrobe. Having a good core wardrobe is essential for two reasons: 1. it keeps you looking timeless, and 2. it prevents you from buying clothes you don’t need and having too many clothes in general.
Once you understand how to put outfits together in a way that’s flattering and modern getting dressed becomes streamlined. You have less mess to pick through to choose what you are going to wear, and because your items were carefully curated you know they will look good in many combinations.
One of the easiest, and most enjoyable ways to do this is to watch good fashion YouTubers. These channels often have some foundation videos that include how to build a capsule wardrobe. This is extremely helpful if you feel overwhelmed when trying to decide what to wear or how to style your clothing. Some of my favorite Fashion YouTubers are MM Personal Styling, What to Wear, and Busbee Style. All of these women are also middle aged and have practical advice that is very helpful.
Beauty Hack #7 for mature women
Use a lip mask at night. All of us women start developing little lines above our top lip as we age. Our lips also start to look thinner and less plump due to collagen loss as we age. One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to help ourselves look better is to wear a lip mask to bed when we sleep. There are a lot of good lip masks on the market but the one I use and love is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.
Beauty Hack #8 for mature women
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate your skin!! Our skin needs hydration. Arguably at any age, but especially as we get older. Hydrating your skin gives it back some of that youthful plumpness that we lose as we age. I recommend using a hydrating toner or essence after you wash your face and also adding in a hydrating serum before you moisturize.
It may seem extra, but your skin will look better and more youthful. There is a plethora of these products on the market now in all price ranges. Find one that suits your needs and add it/them to your skincare routine.

Beauty Hack #9 for mature women
Mix your foundation with a serum or moisturizer for some extra glow. This is another simple way to add some vibrancy back to mature skin. You can use multiple things for this depending on your tastes. I’ve seem women do it with just their moisturizer. I prefer to mix in something a little more glowy like the Elf Halo Glow or London Iconic Drops, but you could use any liquid highlighter as well.
Beauty Hack #10 for mature women
Apply your blush high on your cheeks. We want to give ourselves lift at this age. Since we are fighting gravity and a loss of collagen, anything we can do to give our face a little lift is helpful. A very easy way to do this with makeup is to apply your blush high on your cheekbones and up into your temples.
Beauty Hack #11 for mature women
Use a mascara primer. Again, an extra step in the routine and maybe not one for everyday use however, it makes a difference. If you need a little “wow factor” for a night out, an important meeting, or a special occasion use a mascara primer. You don’t have to spend a lot on these. I use the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Primer and it works great.
These are the best beauty hacks for middle aged women that I have gathered. I hope that you found them helpful and that they gave you some inspiration.
