Aging is such a blessing and each birthday is a gift. However, if you want to look young for as long as you can, as I do, let’s talk about some healthy and natural ways we can do that. In this blog, I’m going to touch on different topics that affect how to look younger over 40.

Take a Collagen supplement
This is something I have recently started doing after reading about the benefits. Collagen is a protein our body produces and is made by amino acids. It’s very important for our muscles and connective tissues but it can also benefit us cosmetically. The most common benefits of taking a Collagen Peptide supplement is skin elasticity and health, and an improvement in joint pain (bonus!).
I personally take the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, but I haven’t been taking it long enough to have seen the full rewards yet. If you would like to see my results visit me on YouTube where I will post an update.
Thick healthy hair
I read once that we as humans tend to automatically associate a full head of hair with youth. Unfortunately, as we get older this becomes a challenge for most of us. Baldness can happen whether you are male or female and on different areas of the head. A lot of us get a receding hairline. This has been my own struggle as I have gotten older.
Some of the natural ways to deal with this include:
- Eating a diet high in nutrients
- Taking a collagen supplement
- Using a hair serum
- Taking a hair supplement
- Red light therapy
- Using quality hair products without any harmful ingredients
- Stimulating your scalp with massage

let’s break down the list above…
These are all suggestions that we can use at home to help us have the healthiest head of hair that we can.
There are a lot of hair supplements on the market today. The one I have used for some time and can vouch for the effectiveness of is Nutrafol. This supplement has a stellar ingredient list that targets the multiple causes of hair loss in women including stress and hormone imbalance.
There are a wide variety of hair serums out there and you can do your research. Choose one with science-backed evidence and good testimonials from users. Vegamour is supposed to be a very good brand if you are someone who can be consistent with a hair serum.
The shampoo and conditioner that I have been using for a long time and love for thinning hair is Nioxin. I’ve tried others but I always go back to Nioxin. Nothing makes my hair look and feel as healthy as these products, period.
You can do a scalp massage with your hands or you can use a tool made for this. I will link one like I use here. You can purchase tools like this anywhere. The reason they are beneficial is that they stimulate blood flow to your scalp. More blood flow equals more hair growth.
You can purchase red light therapy helmets now for use at home. I don’t own one of these but there is a lot of science out there proving the benefits of red light therapy for everything from our skin, to hair, to wound and scar healing. This may be a valuable tool if you are in a battle for hair growth or to prevent hair loss.
Full eyebrows
Another thing associated with youth, and definitely having its day, is thick, full eyebrows. I despised my thick eyebrows when I was young. I use to wax them and pluck them until they were a thin arched line. Oh youth….. Now of course, I have the opposite problem. My eyebrows are nearly nonexistent. How to look younger over 40 with sparse brows?
There are primarily two ways to deal with this:
- By using a brow serum.
- By having your eyebrows microbladed
The first option is easy and can be done at home (which is why it’s been my choice so far). Additionally, it is also less expensive. I am currently trying out the Multi-Peptide lash and brow serum from The Ordinary.
The second option is done by a professional and can cost anywhere from $500 to $1000 depending on where you live. If you are not familiar with microblading, it is a form of cosmetic tattooing where the artist tattoos hair-like strokes to imitate real brow hair. When done by a talented professional this can look amazing. If you are interested in this make sure you read reviews and look at plenty of pictures of the artists work before you select them.
Use some form of Retinoid regularly in your skincare routine
Retinoids, derivatives of Vitamin A, are used in cosmetics for all kinds of anti aging skin care concerns. They improve fine lines and wrinkles, help with acne, increase collagen production, and exfoliate the skin. Using one regularly makes a significant difference in the look of your skin.
If you are just starting out with retinoids you can purchase an over-the-counter retinol. These are less irritating than their prescribed cousin, Tretinoin. I started out by using Neutrogena’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair and I loved it. I moved from that to Differin Gel which. I used for a long time and saw great results with. Differin is also over the counter and available just about everywhere.
If you are ready to see a dermatologist and get a prescription, you can get Tretinoin or Retin A. These are powerful anti-aging skin care compounds.
Whichever kind of retinoid you choose, it’s important to be using one regularly in your skincare routine if you want to look as young as you can for as long as you can.
Whiten your teeth
Your smile is probably one of the first things people notice about you, and that means they are noticing your teeth. As we get older it can be a struggle to keep our teeth white. I change the whitening products I use a lot, and I’m not really loyal to any of them, but I do whiten my teeth consistently.

Drinking and eating things that stain our teeth over forty-plus years does not make keeping our smile white an easy thing, but it certainly does make someone look years younger when they smile at you with a mouth full of pearly whites! How to look younger over 40? Whiten your teeth.
Don’t neglect your neck & hands
Most women take decent care of their faces as they get older, but it’s equally important to take care of your neck and hands. These are two of the places on our bodies that we show aging first, and that show aging the fastest due to how thin the skin is.
Make sure that you bring all of your skin care down your neck and also put it on the back of your hands. It’s also very important that you put sunscreen on these areas. If you want to learn some additional ways to take care of your neck, check out my video below.
Be consistent with a skin care routine
Being consistent with a skin care routine is one of the best ways you can help yourself age gracefully. If you don’t already have a skin care routine in place you may find this blog post helpful to you: Skincare Routine for Anti-Aging.
Firstly, make sure you are using good quality products with ingredients in them that will keep your skin healthy. You do NOT need to spend a lot of money to do this. There are many good brands out there that are not overpriced. Therefore there is no need to break the bank to take care of your skin. The important thing is that you consistently care for your skin twice a day-morning and night. If you need some guidence, let me help you.

Wear Sunblock–all the time
My friends, the number one cause of aging is the sun. If you want to look young and take care of your skin you have to wear sunblock. Think of it like washing your dishes, you may not feel like it but if you want to keep the place looking good, you have to do the work.
The sun breaks down the collagen in our skin, causes age spots and freckling (which is not as cute when you are old), and causes lines and wrinkles. So find a good sunblock, that you don’t mind wearing, and wear it every day. How to look younger of 40? Wear sunblock friends.
How to look younger over 40 and beyond
In conclusion, age is just a number. It’s the inner voice we have inside that really determines how old we see ourselves as. Nonetheless, it is nice to look as good as we can as we age. To age gracefully. That’s the goal.
