I am not a medical professional. Always consult your doctor before undergoing any procedure. This is simply my experience and my opinion. The webpage for Inmode will be linked below for you so that you can do your own research.
In this post, I’m going to describe for you my experience with Morpheus 8 and Evoke. At this point, I have undergone two sessions of each of these treatments. My third session of both is scheduled in two and three weeks respectively. Below I’m going to give you an overview of what each of these treatments is and why I chose to do them.
The background
A little background for the purpose of context. I am a 46-year-old woman. Although I am now diligent with my skincare routine and sun protection, I was not for the first 40 years of my life.
Unfortunately, a combination of genetics and sun damage have worked themselves out as saggy jowls, a sagging double chin, and some large under eye bags. Now before the judgment starts, I am not complaining. I am not unhappy in any way. I am simply pointing out the reality of my skin concerns in connection with why I chose to do Morpheus 8 and Evoke.
In short, at the medispa I go to the nurse there suggested that I was a great candidate for Morpheus 8. Because both Morpheus and Evoke are made by the same company, Inmode, they were running a special package deal when you purchased the two together, so that’s what I did. My goal–skin tightening of the jowls and chin areas.
Morpheus 8
What is Morpheus 8?
What are the benefits of the treatment? The device can heat tissue “up to 5mm (4mm + 1mm thermal profile) to stimulate collagen production” per Inmode’s website. Simply put, it goes really deep to treat and remodel the skin with heat. The needles themselves go as deep as 4mm.
Microneedling itself creates small injuries in your skin and your body’s response is to heal these injuries by creating more collagen and elastin. The benefits include helping with:
- Reduction in lines and wrinkles
- Reduction in scars
- Reduction in enlarged pores
- Skin tone
- Sun Damage
The radio frequency part of the procedure produces heat which also builds collagen. It is primarily beneficial for skin tightening–the very reason I chose to do the procedure.
What is the actual experience like? When I arrived the first time I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I had read what little I could find online about the procedure but I wasn’t really prepared. Also, what I read online stated that this is not a painful procedure. That is false.
Upon arrival, the nurse spread a numbing cream all over my face and neck all the way to my chest. She put a lot on and then I sat for 45 minutes while the cream worked. I was offered laughing gas and that was when I realized that this procedure might be more than I was expecting it to be. After she explained what was going to happen I was laid back in the chair.
She started with the 4mm needle and began on my lower neck. The needles were stamped into my skin while the device was also delivering heat to my skin at the same time. Once she has made the first complete pass over my neck she reduced the size/depth of the needles and made a second pass. She repeated that one to two more times (during my first treatment they did more than during the second one). Then she moved onto the face and began again with the largest needles and worked her way down the more passes she made.
At the end of my first experience, the nurse told me that she had put over 1000 stamps on my face and neck. I’ll put a picture below of what I looked like when I left there the first time:
In my opinion, the procedure is very painful. It was difficult to get all the way through both times that I went. I know that everyone has different pain tolerance levels, but my nurse told me that most women who get this done feel that way.
Is it worth it? My answer is…I think so. I do believe that my skin looks somewhat better in tone and texture since my treatments. What I’m waiting to see is if the real payoff happens–my jowls and double chin are firmed. That is really what I’m after here.
I do think that I have seen some tightening and reduction in the fat under my chin. I’m realistic enough to know it’s not going to look like I had surgery. I am hopeful that it will make a moderate difference. The results can take several months to be fully seen so I am hopeful.
Evoke
What is Evoke? Evoke is a device that is strapped onto your body and delivers radiofrequency heat to an area of the body which helps to remodel the tissue. From Inmode’s website “Evoke’s hands-free facial applicators deliver proven bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy to the cheeks, neck, and jawline. The RF energy penetrates deep into the subdermal layer, heating the Fibro Septal Network (FSN). With its ability to maintain a constant temperature, Evoke remodels the dermis and subdermal tissue to deliver more defined facial characteristics.” https://inmodemd.com/workstation/evoke/
What is the actual experience like? The experience of doing an Evoke treatment is the opposite of Morpheus 8. Essentially, it’s easy and pain-free. Two of my favorite things! As you can see in the picture above, they strap the device onto you (I’m doing the chin/neck treatment) and then you just sit for 45 minutes. The device gets warm at times but there is never any discomfort. In fact I actually asked if it was working the last time. The woman doing it said yes, that it was on the highest setting.
Is it worth it? They recommend at least three to four treatments of this to really see results. Like with Morpheus it may take months to see the final result. However, there are some compelling before and after pictures on the Inmode website and the science seems sound. Since it’s pain free and less expensive than some other options I am cautiously hopeful.
In summary:
I once read a quote by Mark Twain that said “do not complain about growing old. It’s a privilege denied to many.” That has always stuck with me. I remind myself of it when I see the wrinkles on my face. Although I do indeed cherish growing older, I also strongly believe that we have the right to grow older as the best version of ourselves. For me that means keeping my body and soul healthy and happy. It also means that if I can do something noninvasive that helps me to look better and have more confidence I’m in.
If you are interested in having either of these procedures done do your research about them on the Inmode website linked below. Additionally, reading blogs and watching youtube videos about people’s actual experiences with them is very helpful.
